In 1382 a tax riot grew into a revolt called the Maillotin uprising

In the 11th century the first guilds were formed, among them the butchers' guild Rosetta Stone V3 and the river-merchants' guild, or marchandise de l'eau. In 1141 the crown sold the principal port (near the Htel de Ville) to the marchandise, whose ship-blazoned arms eventually were adopted as those of Paris. In 1171 Louis VII gave the marchandise a charter confirming its ancient right to a monopoly of river trade.During the reign of Philip II (11791223), Paris was extensively improved. Streets were paved, the city wall was enlarged, and a number of new towns were enfranchised. In 1190, when Philip II went on a crusade for a year, he entrusted the city's administration not to the provost but to the guild. In 1220 the crown ceded one of its own precious rights to the townsmenthe right to collect duty on incoming goods. The merchants were also made responsible for maintaining fair weights and measures. The Rosetta Stone Japanese King's formal recognition of the University of Paris in 1200 was also a recognition of the natural division of Paris into three parts. On the Right Bank were the mercantile quarters, on the island was the cit, and the Left Bank contained the university and academic quarters. Numerous colleges were also founded, including the Sorbonne (about 1257).In the 14th century the development of Paris was hindered not only by the Black Death (134849) but also by the Hundred Years' War (13371453) and by internal disturbances resulting from it. The provost of the merchants in 1356 was tienne Marcel, who wanted a Paris as rich and free as the independent cities of the Low Countries. Bastille Articles, Video, Pictures and Facts

The Bastille was a medieval fortress on the east side of Paris that became, in Cheap Rosetta Stone the 17th and 18th centuries, a French state prison and a place of detention for important persons charged with various offenses. The Bastille, stormed by an armed mob of Parisians in the opening days of the French Revolution, was a symbol of the despotism of the ruling Bourbon monarchy and held an important place in the ideology of the Revolution. With its eight towers, 100 feet (30 meters) high, linked by walls of equal height and surrounded by a moat more than 80 feet (24 meters) wide, the Bastille dominated Paris. The first stone was laid on April 22, 1370, on the orders of Charles V of France, who had it built as a bastide, or fortification (the name Bastille is a corruption of bastide), to protect his wall around Paris against English attack. The Bastille, in fact, was originally a fortified gate, but Charles VI turned it into Rosetta Stone Spanish Latin an independent stronghold by walling up the openings. In 1557 its defensive system was completed on the eastern flank by the erection of a bastion. In the 17th century a transverse block was built, dividing the inner court into unequal parts.Cardinal de Richelieu was the first to use the Bastille as a state prison, in the 17th century; the yearly average number of prisoners was 40, interned by lettre de cachet, a direct order of the king, from which there was no recourse. Prisoners included political troublemakers and individuals held at the request of their families, often to coerce a young member into obedience or to prevent a disreputable member from marring the family's name. Under Louis XIV the Bastille became a place of judicial detention in which the lieutenant de police could hold prisoners; under the regency Rosetta Stone Italian of Philippe II, duc d'Orlans, persons being tried by the Parlement were also detained there.

Yeah, and I made mistakes in the relationship that ended it

Theres an air about them that is like, Wow, they really seem to fucking own the place. And Cheap Rosetta Stone I guess they do, because theyre young and have it all ahead of them. So it was like, How does my own experience of being older and my own regrets about things that havent come together in my life the way I wanted them to inform that point of view of Greenberg? So what kind of regrets do you have? There are movies that I was supposed to direct that didnt happen that I still think about all the time. If Id done that movie, what direction would my career have gone in? I dont blame myself, though maybe I could go back and look at the ways I sabotaged it at the time. And Ive been in relationships where Ive screwed things up, where somebody was too there for me — too available — and it scared me. And you took them for granted? Yeah, and I made mistakes in the relationship that ended it. With that movie I didnt direct, it Cheap Rosetta Stone Software came at a time when I was in a relationship that Id self-sabotaged and was trying to get back into. At that moment, I was more focused on the relationship than doing the movie. So maybe I didnt fight as hard as I should have. You often say you dont think youre funny in person. But do you think youre funny onscreen? Oh! Good question. Occasionally. I really dont make a practice of watching stuff that Ive done, because its just too strange and narcissistic, and it doesnt feel right. But when youre working on something that youre in and youre directing it, you obviously have to watch yourself a lot. So Ill see things, and more often than not Im disappointed. What about after the process? Every once in a while youll be flipping through the channels, and youll see something, and if its more than five years old, then it becomes sort of an Rosetta Stone language oddity where you go, Wow, that actually happened? What were we thinking back then? Youre often hiding under a wig or mustache or sunglasses in your comedies.

Prince made a rare television appearance yesterday, sitting down with Tavis Smiley for Cheap Rosetta Stone his PBS talk show to discuss misinterpreted lyrics, why he doesnt vote and other insights that could only come from the mind of the man who brought you Purple Rain. As Jezebel points out, one of the strangest moments in the interview comes when Prince is talking about "Dreamer," an ode to comedian Dick Gregory that features on LOtUSFLOW3R, and brings up "chemtrails," the conspiracy theory that argues jets drop chemicals through their smoky exhaust.Other Prince pearls of wisdom: "When I found out that there was eight Presidents before George Washington, I wanted to smack somebody." On the historic election of President Barack Obama, Prince said, "I dont vote and I got nothing to do with it. I have no dog in that race." When Rosetta Stone hit Austins South By Southwest Music Festival a week ago, we Cheap Rosetta Stone handed Semi Precious Weapons outrageous frontman Justin Tranter a Flipcam and a simple set of directions: film yourself doing what you do before, during and after gigs and hand over the footage. We wound up with two days worth of video 250 different clips featuring the outrageous singer bathing, high-kicking, hanging with Perez Hilton, Juliette Lewis, Sylvain Sylvain and Rachael Ray, baring his nipples, hopping onstage at the Japanese punk showcase, breaking his heel, applying eyeliner, showing off his dance belt and greeting the glam-rock bands fans. It took days to sift through the footage (and remove the bits that wouldnt get past the censors), but weve finally done it: click above to watch 48 wild hours in the life of Semi Precious Weapons at the music industrys biggest annual event. When Rosetta Stone first profiled the Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 New York party band in December 2008, Tranter told us, "Theres 10 songs on our record and nine of them are about how fantastic I am." Their debut album, We Love You, is packed with winkingly cocky lyrics (sample: "I cant pay my rent but Im fucking gorgeous") and raw garage-rock riffs that have won over a diverse audience of admirers (Rachael Ray to Tranter onstage: "I still want those boots, bitch!"). Tranter tells RS that he was recognized on the streets of Austin from his stint on MTVs Made and an appearance on E!s Chelsea Lately. Theyre uneasy about still bein on the bottom

Velvet Revolver are the frontrunner to open up for Led Zeppelin if the band were to go on a Rosetta Stone language full reunion tour, says VRs Duff McKagan. "I understand that we have it, although I imagine there will be plenty of bands prepared to kick and punch us out of the way for the privilege!" said McKagan. One of those bands who will likely fight it out is the Cult, as lead singer Ian Astbury told a Cincinnati crowd last November that his band would be opening for the Zep reunion tour. Another potential wrench in the works would be Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weilands tour with a reunited Stone Temple Pilots. No Zeppelin reunion tour has been announced, as Robert Plant has scheduling commitments to his joint tour with Alison Krauss until September. The gangsters dont like that I do whatever the fuck I wanna do. Im movin around, Im all over the country, Im makin money, Im a motherfuckin star. That bothers a nigga. The people that dislike me have nothin to lose. Im from the bottom. The Spirit, The Flesh and Marvin Gaye

Below is an excerpt of an article that originally appeared in RS 158 from April 11, 1974. Cheap Rosetta Stone This issue and the rest of the Rosetta Stone archives are available via Rosetta Stone Plus, Rosetta Stones premium subscription plan. If you are already a subscriber, you can click here to see the full story .The Marvin Gaye documentary should start like this: A wide-angle helicopter shot of the bare Southern California mountains zooming down to a small, weathered-wood and glass canyon-top home. There are two jeeps parked alongside the dirt road. Windsounds, and far below, the Pacific Ocean. Slow dolly to one of the Pacific-side windows. Inside, a tall, athletic-looking black man in faded jeans stands braced against the glare, staring down toward the distant waters. His lips are moving slightly. Now, amid the wind and water sounds we hear Marvin Gayes tenor voice."Mercy, mercy me, whats happening to...."The voice breaks, goes reedy. Marvin checks the watch on his wrist. "Fifteen minutes," he mutters disconsolately.Cut to: Marvin at the wheel of his jeep, careening over the dry winter Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 hills. "You dont expect a man to come back after five years and give a perfect show. You have to make allowances. Its like Muhammad Ali coming back to the ring. The first time out, he isnt going to be at top form. Ive been training for this concert. I started singing... trying to do the whole show. The first time I tried it, I could only do about five minutes. In the studio I sing a phrase or two at a time, but Friday Fm going to have to do over an hour. Ive got it worked up to about 15 good minutes before my voice breaks."Close-up on Marvin, brooding. Long pan shot of the leaden Pacific horizon and a cold January sunset. Windsounds."Its as if hes developed this phobia about performing," Marvins younger brother, Frankie, says. And Marvin, a man who has sold four million albums in the last three years, who has sung about God and ecology, who has managed boxers and trained with them, who has prayed to God and sung finely of sex, says, "I used to be afraid about 70% of the time. Ive got it worked down to about ten percent lately." The most frightening time Cheap Rosetta Stone German was the first 17 years, the ones Marvin spent while living at 1716 1st Street, S.W., in Washington, D.C., in a ghetto he and his friends called Simple City. Tall but slight as a child, Marvin learned the rough facts quick. You had to bring your lunch money for the older kids, learn to run fast or get into boxing. "I was chicken," Marvin says.

David Bowie, Rosetta Stones, Pink Floyd Arrive on U.K. Stamps

British letters have acquired a taste for rock music. Yesterday, the Royal Mail released Rosetta Stone Spanish a set of 10 special stamps featuring classic British album covers including David Bowies Ziggy Stardust, the Rosetta Stones Let It Bleed, New Orders Power, Corruption and Lies and Coldplays A Rush of Blood to the Head. The Royal Mail was first created by Henry VIII in 1516 and continues to serve as the national postal service for the United Kingdom. Issuing rock stamps is not a casual matter, and only 12 special stamp sets are produced per year. "The thing about stamps is that they are 1-inch works of art," says Philip Parker, the Head of Stamp Policy for Royal Mail. "And thinking about this we thought that the old 12-inch vinyl cover is a great work of art. We thought putting them on stamps would be a great way to celebrate this art form." The selection process was rigorous. "We conducted huge research," says Cheap Rosetta Stone Software Parker. "We spoke with music journalists and analyzed lots of existing lists." Check out Rosetta Stone readers favorite album covers. The Rosetta Stones Exile on Main Street, for example, was considered for the set but was rejected because its album cover image, shrunk down to stamp size, would be undecipherable. Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here was rejected because its image of a man shaking hands with a man on flames was considered possibly disturbing for the public. Many Brits have (naturally) questioned the omission of Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, one of the most famous album covers of all time. "It was too black," says Parker. "The stamps also have to do their function. They cant just look good. If a stamp is too dark our machines will reject it." Once the panel of pros made their selections, the stamps had to get royal approval from the Queen. "She didnt reject any," Parker says. "Shes old but I think she has her finger on the pulse. I wouldnt be surprised if she knew the majority of the bands." The stamps also set an interesting Rosetta Stone English historical precedent: the Royal Mail isnt allowed to depict living people on its stamps unless they are members of the royal family.

West managed to work in a dig at this magazine, too (over a perceived dis in our recent cover story on him). And West got away with a neat trick when he had the strings play the opening hook of the Verves "Bittersweet Symphony." That, of course, is the lick from the 1965 Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra version of "The Last Time" -- which surely made this the first time the Stones ever opened for themselves. There will never be another Man in Black

He was like Abraham or Moses — one of the great men who will ever grace the earth. There will Rosetta Stone Outlet never be another Man in Black. Kris KristoffersonI was his janitor for a year and a half at Columbia Records Studio, and I pitched John every song I ever wrote. He never cut any of them then, but he was always encouraging. He even carried one set of my lyrics around in his wallet, and at the time that was enough for me. Then when he got his television show, it was a really important phase in the development of country music here in Nashville. He brought in a lot of people who werent normally in Nashville, like Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Ray Charles. He put me on the show, too, and he recorded my song "Sunday Mornin Coming Down" and made it Record of the Year. I never had to work another job again. John was my hero a long time before I ever met him. He represented so much that Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 appealed to me — like freedom. He was willing and able to be the champion of people who didnt have one. And I think the power of his performance came from the tension between this man who was deeply spiritual and also a real wild man. I can see how rappers would love that "I shot a man in Reno" attitude. But to me, he doesnt represent danger, he represents integrity. And, Jesus, thats just what we cant afford to lose today. BonoEvery man could relate to him, but nobody could be him. To be that extraordinary and that ordinary was his real gift. That, and his humor and his bare-boned honesty. When I visited him at home one time, he said the most beautiful, poetic grace. He said, "Shall we bow our heads?" We all bowed our heads. Then, when he was done, he looked at me and Adam Clayton and said, "Sure miss the Rosetta Stone Greek drugs, though." It was just to say, "I havent become a holy Joe." He just couldnt be self-righteous. I think he was a very godly man, but you had the sense that he had spent his time in the desert. And that just made you like him more. It gave his songs some dust. And that voice was definitely locusts and honey. As for "Hurt," its perhaps the best video ever made.I was telling somebody just the other day, "Were all sissies in comparison to Johnny Cash." And he was a zookeeper, too. Did you know he was nearly killed by an emu on his property? He told me, "That emu damn near killed me. I defended myself with a post." But he was laughing as he told the story. So Johnny Cash passed away after seeing off the love of his life. Thats such a different outcome than death by emu. We should be grateful.Al Gore When Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 I was elected to congress twenty-seven years ago, my district included Johnny Cashs home in Hendersonville, twenty-five minutes north of Nashville.

As the Warblers joined in, Blaine looks at Kurt tenderly

He interrupts an otherwise serious Warblers debate about regionals attire to sing Cheap Rosetta Stone an impromptu song for his dead bird starting a new trend in which Kurt sings Beatles ballads in times of personal grief (see also: "I Want to Hold Your Hand" from "Grilled Cheesus"). Kurts rendition of "Blackbird" is simple and sweet and thankfully didnt attempt anything flashy. As the Warblers joined in, Blaine looks at Kurt tenderly. Later, he explains: "Kurt, there is a moment when you say to yourself, Oh, there you are. Ive been looking for you forever." Its a big moment, a moment that fans have been clamoring for ever since Kurt and Blaine first met last fall: the kiss. Its an important moment, too not just for Kurt, but for Glee as a series and it was thrilling to see the show handle it with the same natural grace as it has the rest of Kurts storylines. The 15 Most Groundbreaking Gay Roles on Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 Television"Hell to the No" Mercedes attempt at songwriting fares much better than that of her counterparts. Her infectious tune about self-acceptance is straight from the school of Amy Winehouse. Its nice to get a reminder that our resident diva can wail. And the song has a hook that will be stuck in our head for days."Candles" Regionals time: the Sue Sylvester-led Aural Intensity does a campy Jesus number to appeal to the judges (slimy local anchor Rod; stripper-turned-nun Mary Constance, played by Loretta Devine; and the Christine ODonnell-inspired "Twitterer and former Tea Party candidate" Tammy Jean Albertson, played by Kathy Grifffin). It ends in a Star of David formation. Then the Warblers take the stage, with everyone but Blaine and Kurt blending into the background as they launch into the pop ballad by Hey Rosetta Stone English V3 Monday. As Kurt pointed out, its a welcome departure from the Warblers Top 40 songbook but both Kurt and Blaine sound strained and unnatural in whats supposed to be a touching moment. After last weeks "Animal," we have to wonder: Is it that hard to find a fitting duet for them?"Raise Your Glass" Pinks song is a good choice for regionals, and the Warblers handle it well, striking a balance between a polished arrangement and a fun, loose performance. Remembering Aaliyah: 1979-2001

One late Saturday afternoon, just two weeks before her death, twenty-two-year-old Rosetta Stone Aaliyah walked from a black Mercedes-Benz to a small helicopter for a short flight from New Jersey to East Hampton, New York. She was on her way to the summer house that Jay-Z shared with her boyfriend of a year, Damon Dash, Jays partner in Roc-a-Fella Records. She wore a dark-green hoodie and matching shorts so small they showed off most of her long, curvy legs, down to the little treble-clef tattoo on her right ankle. She wore all-white Nike Air Force Ones with white socks. Around her neck hung a small Roc-a-Fella pendant. In her left arm she clutched a large, fluffy pillow in a black pillowcase. She got on the helicopter, nuzzled into Dashs shoulder and went to sleep. I was there reporting a story on Jay-Z, and I was struck by Aaliyahs presence, the way she was in person, as she was onstage Rosetta Stone V3 sexy without losing her girlish sweetness. Throughout the weekend, she was quiet but not quite shy, quick to flash her wide, bright smile, quick to laugh at Dashs jokes and quick to dance with him in the middle of the living room when Michael Jacksons Off the Wall came on. On Sunday, she slept hours longer than everyone else, on a bed strewn with rose petals. She and Dash seemed very much in love.Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born January 16th, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Detroit with her family at age five. She grew up singing with her mother, and at eleven opened for her aunt Gladys Knight in Las Vegas. She studied dance at the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts and earned a 4.0 GPA. At fourteen, Aaliyah released an album produced by Chicago RB kingpin R. Kelly, called Age Aint Nothing Rosetta Stone English but a Number, which sold more than 1 million copies. Reports surfaced that she had married Kelly when she was only fifteen and he was twenty-seven; Aaliyah denied it, although a marriage certificate was found in a Chicago county clerks office. In 1996 came her second album, One in a Million, which sold 2 million copies and launched its producer-songwriter team, two largely unknown figures named Timbaland and Missy Elliott, to stardom. Aaliyah began modeling for Tommy Hilfiger and taking acting lessons, which led to a starring role in Romeo Must Die (2000) as well as the role of Akasha in Queen of the Damned, slated for release next spring. She had also been cast in both of the upcoming sequels to The Matrix, which she had started shooting this summer in L.A.Her third record, Aaliyah, released in July, Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 was already gold when she flew to Abaco Island in the Bahamas to finish the video for the albums third single, "Rock the Boat," directed by Hype Williams.

But theres really no reason to try and emulate what they did

Of course, an artist doesnt normally set out to put people to sleep, particularly when Rosetta Stone Outlet given such prized material. But Falkner quickly adapted to his objective, dismantling his drum kit after a run-through of McCartneys "White Album" ballad "I Will" proved that even the most delicate rhythms could be disruptive. Instead he took a space-age approach inspired by the Moog-heavy educational-film soundtracks of his elementary school days. Acoustic guitars, woodwinds, strings and a multitude of keyboards transform such songs as "Across the Universe," "Blackbird" and "The Fool on the Hill" into blissful, slumbering soundscapes without ever obscuring the impeccable craftsmanship of the compositions. "I didnt really consult the original arrangements too much," he says. "I would get chords down and make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong fundamentally. But theres really no reason to try and emulate what Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 they did. I think thats where people make a mistake when they do covers."The albums not just an unconventional take on the Beatles; its also a world away from Falkners own music, which has always comfortably worn the "power pop" tag. A cursory listen, in fact, will have many wondering if Falkners association with French retro-futurists Air -- with whom he just completed an eleven-week European tour as a hired bassist and vocalist -- inspired him to tone down his normally high-energy attack."How Air influenced me in general is that I dont have to bash out every instrument that Im playing," he says. "The school that I grew up in was Beatles, Kinks, Who, Stones and then later a lot of English punk. Basically, a lot of stuff that Ive been into is people playing full-on at all times. There are dynamics in the arrangements but the Rosetta Stone German performances all have this urgency, which I love with my own music, but I realized playing with Air and in making this record [that you can] have that kind of urgency juxtaposed with some of these more gentle, thoughtful performances." Despite Bedtime With the Beatless intended toddler audience and the albums gender-friendly blue or pink packaging, theres little doubt it will appeal to Fabs fans of all ages, something Falkner credits to the strength of the original tunes."I think because the songs are so good, you cant really argue with what they did melodically," he says. "So you could treat those songs any way you wanted to and theyd still be musically engaging." This is a song that C.J. sang," No on that also.Had there been any talk of a reunion since the Ramones last breakup? When I stopped five years ago, I was ninety-nine Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 percent sure I was not going to come back and play. I was always open, but I didnt want to go back on tour under any circumstance at all. If they could have come up with an offer that I couldnt refuse for one week of jobs, somewhere in the world, I would have thought about it. I dont know if I would have taken it, but I would have thought about it. But I was not going to go back on the road and go play for three months.

Liz Phair: Fifteen Years in Guyville

Fifteen years ago, Liz Phair turned the indie rock Rosetta Stone Outlet world inside out with Exile in Guyville, her abrasive, aggressive and accomplished debut. Having survived many bumps along the road, including major label woes and harsh critical backlashes, she will reissue Guyville (complete with a DVD documentary on the albums creation) next month via her new home, ATO Records. We caught up with Phair as she was on her way to therapy, and she talked about feminism, Dean Wareham and her difficult relationship with Guyville. You recently reviewed former Luna and Galaxie 500 frontman Dean Warehams autobiography for The New York Times. How did that come about? I had a really good time writing that. They approached me, and I have no idea how I got the gig. But I wasnt going to pass it up. I think because I mention Galaxie 500 in [Exile in Guyvilles] "Stratford-on-Guy." Did Rosetta Stone V3 you approach that book differently, considering you had your indie rock coming of age at about the same time? I was very interested in how Dean looked at it and how I looked at it. He remembered exactly where he was, what he was eating, what bands were passing through town. He was highly aware of being in the middle of an indie scene. Sometimes he didnt like it, or he didnt like the people, but he was definitely conscious of it all. Whereas I was always so overwhelmed by what was going on that I didnt pick up on the same things that he did. He was always aware of his place in history. Did you ever consider yourself a part of any scene? Going back and doing the documentary [on Exile in Guyville] reminded me of how much I was a part of that Chicago scene at the time. Thats when it ended for me, because after Rosetta Stone French that I was busy working and got caught up in business, and I got married and got pregnant. So I was sort of a mom and sort of a rock star, and I couldnt really figure the two out. But I think thats the only time I ever felt like I was part of a scene. But Ive always been like that. Even when I was younger, I always had one or two good friends in every social circle but Ive never been a part of any one thing. Im just an outsider. It seems like the music youve made in the past few years doesnt have much of a relationship to the music on Exile in Guyville. Whats your relationship to that record now? Its coming back around again, and I dont think its an accident. For the first time in 15 years, Im not on a major, and the forces around you are different. If you asked me to do this reissue five years ago, I dont think I could Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 have.

Then this thing comes on the screen, and their faces fall

Robbie Williams did his bit from L.A. Dido did hers from Australia. Again the difference Rosetta Stone from twenty years ago -- down the fucking wire.Everybody knew what they were there for. But in 84, we had all the news reports coming out of Africa. You dont have that now. I thought, "Hold on, these guys are reenacting a time from their parents lives."Remember the video that Bowie introduced at Wembley? It was footage from the CBC [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation] -- stuff that they wouldnt show on telly because it was too hard. You had these beautiful girls, tanned and healthy, on their boyfriends shoulders, on this beautiful English day. Then this thing comes on the screen, and their faces fall. They crumble theyre sobbing.I showed that video at the session. I was the school teacher: "Please, everyone. I want you to understand what were doing today." I played the video. Towards the end, theres a little Rosetta Stone V3 girl, two years old. The kid has been given fifteen minutes to live theres nothing in the mothers breast. The childs face is like a deaths head. Really, I got quite teary. Then I said, "So you understand what youre going to sing, the direct impact of what youre doing -- that little girl, because of what we did twenty years ago -- here she is."And the girl arrived. She is now this beautiful woman. An agriculturalist. The Sun newspaper found her -- incredible. Band Aid and Live Aid kept millions of those children alive. Ive met national sporting heroes, an Oxford don, a philosopher, all kept alive by it. Joss Stone fled the room, crying. Damon [Albarn] from Blur turned away, sobbing. The difference is, if you listen to the chorus on the first version -- "Feed the world" -- people are singing. Theyre trying to find their harmony and their octave. This Rosetta Stone German one, its a shout, a fucking demand. The promise of 1985 is finally delivered by the Live Aid babies. This is really politics. We addressed the issue through pop, globally, because thats the language people understood. Live Aid was on ninety-five percent of the worlds screens at the time. Heres another time. And we know it will work -- because we got 150 million bucks then. But the U.N. also debated Africa for the first time, and we changed thirty-seven laws governing bilateral relations. Its a broken world, and band-aids wont mend it. But politics will. And who will the politicians listen to? The kids buying this DVD. [Smiles] Which is a great fucking present. The Golden Hornet Project is, in asense, his collaborative autobiography with friend and composerStopschinski, a catalog of their adventures crossbreeding classicalfuturism and Cheap Rosetta Stone V3 punk esprit. Among my faves here so far: a live GoldenArm blowout at the Austin club Emos in 2001 the groups score toF.W. Murneaus 1926 silent film, Faust and theMagma-Boredoms-like bass-drums rumble of AARFYSTEE. You can buy theentire set for five bucks a disk, or order separate (andadditional) works on CD-R for about the same rate atgoldenhornetproject -- not much to ask for a leap of faith.
